The New Glasses explores the fragile boundary between seeing and perceiving. The broken lenses reflect a clear blue sky, yet the eyes behind them remain invisible. Designed to correct and clarify vision, the glasses instead become a fractured surface that separates the figure from the world.
The reflected sky suggests openness, freedom and an ideal reality, but it can only be seen as an image on the surface of the damaged lenses. The figure does not appear to observe the world; the world is projected back onto him.
Through this contradiction, the painting questions whether vision offers direct access to reality or merely reflects our own filters, expectations and illusions. The title becomes deliberately ironic: these “new” glasses do not restore clarity, but reveal how unstable and mediated perception can be.
