I am not looking at you depicts a faceless figure placed within an apparently ordered and idealised world. Clear colours, geometric spaces and an artificial landscape create a sense of stability, harmony and control.
Yet the absence of the face turns this seemingly reassuring environment into something subtly unsettling. The figure's gesture remains deliberately ambiguous: it may be hiding, protecting itself, or attempting to see through a face that is no longer there.
The title reinforces this uncertainty. We cannot know whether the subject refuses to look at us or has lost the ability to do so.
The work explores the tension between appearance and identity, questioning what remains of the individual when the most immediate element of recognition — the face — disappears. Behind the bright and controlled surface, a sense of isolation gradually emerges, leaving the figure suspended between presence and absence.
